RACHEL (The School Principal!)

Teaches: Cotham Gardens Primary After School, St. Albans Church Kids, Performance Crew, Redland Kids, Merchants Academy P.E. & Westbury Park Kids (Phew!)

About Rachel:

Rachel has been dancing since she was 3yrs old. Her roots in Chile means she began dancing Chilean dances such as ‘La Queca’ very young and had the joy of also looking up to her mum who performed other Latin dances.  She then moved to the USA at age 5yrs where she was influenced by the break dance culture, competing at school & performing at lunch times!  She settled in England at 9yrs, and as a young adult was asked by her dance teachers to cover their classes & soon moved into choreographing for long haul summer schools & various dance productions.  After Uni she danced in London for 3 yrs performing &  also casting for music videos.  Rachel realised that after all this experience, her true love was to teach both children & adults & spread the love of dance.  She started Funk It Up Dance School 16 years ago. The dance school grows every year, as does her passion to share it which brings stronger commitment & engagement from students.

About Xavier:

Xavier is a current freelance dance teacher, dancer and choreographer. His varying range of experience includes training from both the UK and Portugal, and his first-class Dance BA (Hons) degree at Bath Spa University, where he is now an associate lecturer. He also received the Bath Spa Alumni Award in 2017 as one of the top five students in the university. Xavier has plenty of experience in leading, making and collaborating within the dance world. He has worked across dance and theatre platforms with a variety of artists, receiving great reviews including five stars for his dance theatre performance of Final Test in 2017. He is also currently working as choreographer and performer for AllouAqui Dance Theatre Company, which he co-founded with Delicia Sefiha. His vast experience working with children also allows him to comprehend the complexities that are our bodies, and how movement and dance can be both strictly rehearsed, abstractly improvised and incredibly enjoyable.

About Siannise:

Siannise started dancing at the age of 5 with a performing arts company called “The Song and Dance Club”. She then joined Funk It Up at the age of 10; she started with Rachel and then went on to Teens and Adults. SIannise then had the opportunity to be part of a Funk It Up crew – “Synergy”. She studied Dance for 3 years at college, mostly Street Dance/Hip Hop but covering all styles such as Jazz, Contemporary and Belly Dance. She then became part of “Dark Angels” based in Bristol and competed in many competitions with this group, including Hip Hop world championships in Orlando, Florida, which she was placed top 3. She has taught Kids & Teens for Funk It Up since 2016.

About Wendy:

Wendy Hazel has been dancing since age 3! She trained to advanced level in ISTD and RAD and has been privileged to perform in the West End at the Move It Exhibition & various films & shows. She has performed alongside artists such as McFly, Liberty X, Jason Donovan and Chico.

Teaches: Bristol University Advanced Street Class

About Amy:

Amy initially trained at the Bristol College of Dancing before going to SLP college in Leeds where she received her Diploma in Musical Theatre. Trained as a teacher in many different styles of dance, including Street and Zumba, Amy now teaches a range of Dance & Fitness classes across the Bristol & Bath area. “Being an extremely energetic individual helps my classes to have a great atmosphere in a relaxed environment. My passion is to teach people that want to learn something different and grow and succeed, as well as people that do dance classes for fun.”

Teaches: Sea Mills Primary After School – Member of our Teens class!

About Skylah:

Skylah has been dancing almost her whole life in a variety of styles including Ballet, Contemporary and Street Dance. Every year she has taken part in a show at a festival which has required her to teach a 5 minute routine to children aged between 5 – 16 years old. She has recently started teaching for Funk It Up alongside her studies at college. She loves dancing and giving others joy!



Teaches: Bristol University Advanced Jazz Class

About Courtney:

Courtney trained in professional dance and musical theatre at Stella Mann College of Performing Arts after being awarded a scholarship. Since graduating in 2011, Courtney has gone on to work within the industry both as a performer and choreographer all over the UK and abroad. Now based in Bristol, Courtney works as a teacher of dance at various schools and colleges in and
around the city and is a regular choreographer for many local theatre productions. Courtney recently received a Rose Bowl nomination for his choreography 
on a production of My Fair Lady that was staged at The Bristol Hippodrome last year.
